Family Law Consultation in Montana
It can feel very daunting to begin contacting attorneys regarding your family law situation. My goal is to make it easier than ever before to reach out and get the information that you need. You can contact me via email, text, phone, and even Facebook messenger. We always aim to respond within one business day.
A lot of Kalispell family law attorneys will charge big money for your initial consultation, if they are even willing to meet with you. However, I prefer a different approach, which is why I offer a 30-minute phone consultation for $95. For a relatively low price, you can ask your big questions, get a feel for my services and approach, and gain some direction for your family law case.
I really like phone consultations because when we are done people usually feel relieved. They have knowledge, they have direction, and they have actionable next steps.
What’s Included in the Consultation?
We generally cover a lot of ground within 30 minutes. While every call is different, this is typically the road map:
- Case overview: You describe your case to me.
- My assessment: I will ask relevant questions so I have all the info I need.
- Process overview: I will go over the basic process for your situation (i.e. how a joint dissolution works, or what the process is for a parenting plan amendment)
- Listing of options: I will go over all of your options to accomplish your goal (i.e. what flat fee service to purchase).
- Your questions: I make every effort to answer all of your questions on the call.
- Follow up: I will send you a follow up email with information and links pertinent to our discussion.

FAQs
How much is a consultation with a lawyer?
For most family law attorneys in Kalispell, they will charge their hourly rate, which generally ranges from $200-$300/hour. For my 30 minute phone consultation I charge $95.
Why a phone consultation?
I find phone consultations to be the most convenient for my practice because I offer my services statewide. Also, in-person consultations tend to be longer, and if I am trying to keep the consult to 30 minutes, it’s easiest to do that on the phone.
Can I meet you in-person?
I do offer in-person consultations at my normal hourly rate, but I find phone consultations to be the most efficient and effective for all parties.
Are lawyer consultations free?
While I am sure some lawyers do free consultations, I no longer do free consultations for family law cases and I do not know any family law attorneys offering free consultations.
How much is a lawyer consultation fee?
As listed above, usually the hourly rate. However, mine is $95 for a 30-minute phone consultation.
What is the point of a consultation?
Overall, your consult is a great time to get information and direction for your case. I find that after 90% of my consults, the person will say “I feel so much better now,” and that is the power of information and direction.
Can I purchase flat fee items without a consultation first?
Absolutely. I do reserve the right to refund the purchase and recommend something else if you purchase the wrong thing.
I called and left a message, when will I hear from you?
We aim to return all contact within one business day. Sometimes things come up and it is longer, but not usually.
What is the process to set up a consultation with you?
You contact me via phone, text, email, or Facebook messenger. Either me or my paralegal will get back to you and get you scheduled. You will get a confirmation email and invoice from my paralegal. You have to pay your invoice at least two hours before the call. Then, I call you at the given number and we chat!
If at any point in this process my paralegal or I do not think my services would be a good fit for your case, we will decline to schedule.
